Family trip to Puerto Rico!

This page contains pictures from our amazing trip to Puerto Rico.  It was wonderful to visit mom's birthplace.  Although Amanda and I had been before, we were very young.  So it was wonderful to be able to visit our mother's home as adults.  We spent time in Viejo San Juan, Santurce, Cayey, Boqueron, La Paguera, Catano, El Yunque and the metro San Juan area.  We also did a little Hurricane Frances avoiding!  I am currently in the process of adding the Puerto Rico pictures, stay tuned!

A town square in Viejo San Juan.

Puerto Rico has many town squares where merchants gather to sell their handmade goods.  This one is at the bottom of Viejo San Juan and was being prepared for a market that afternoon.  Notice the beautiful colors of the buildings in the background?!

This is the Capilla del Cristo in Viejo San Juan.  It is the smallest chapel in San Juan.  The gate is there to protect the altar, which is made of gold, from theft and vandalism.  It is only opened on special occasions.  Behind the capilla is the sea.  This was one of our favorite spots to sit, have a pina colada or a coffee and just take it all in.

Mark in Viejo San Juan

This photo gives you a good idea of how narrow the cobblestone streets of Viejo San Juan are.  It is also another great shot of the colorful buildings of San Juan.
